One crisp November Morning I was walking downtown when I saw the Sarcastic Café. As I continued my walk to stay warm I saw steam rising from the sidewalks and heard a riveter and car alarms ringing down the skyscraper alleyways. Two girls rose up as if magically from under a blanket across the street in front of an abandoned store. As I looked at them closely my heart saw the evidence of broken daydreams, and my eyes took in garbage bag suitcases. When I came back to the Café two ladies were sitting out front talking loudly over the car horns and riveter while drinking their morning lattes. Each one of us is a message to others and we carry a message in our hearts. The stained glass museums and ivory palaces call to us but are we hearing the voice of wisdom calling from the ages past?

"If you knew" is a love song I wrote many years ago but still seems poignant today.

"Ballad to Jake" was also written long ago. I was in very difficult times living alone in an attic when I met a man named Jake. I have recorded it twice and my son once. It calls me out of loneliness to spiritual awakening.
